Course Overview

To minimise the risk involved in business transactions, it is essential to understand and acquire the “how-to” skills to apply the Standard Trading Conditions (STC).

The STC was revised at the 30th Annual General Meeting of SLA held on 7 May 2004 to reflect changes in the logistics industry taking into consideration, several judgements upheld up the court in Singapore and incorporated suggestions, comments and feedback from member-companies. The specially designed course will enable participants to :

- Examine the obligations of shippers/consignees
- Understand the liabilities involved in undertaking special instructions involving goods and services
- Identify the general indemnity and liability of company provided under the STC
- Define the conditions under which the company is not liable to compensate claims
- Distinguish the liability and indemnity conditions of the company acting as agent and as principal
- Define the rules governing electronic data interchange

Certification

A Certificate in Standard Trading Conditions will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. Participants must fulfil 75% attendance and pass the required examination. Participant who fails the examination, will be granted a re-examination. In the event, if the participant did not pass the re-examination, he would have to re-enrol for the course if he wishes to obtain the certificate.

Funding Info

The course is an Approved-in-Principle (AIP) course under the SDF EasyNet with a support level of $4 per training hour. (Please note that the AIP status is subjected to renewal by the Skills Development Fund.) Sponsoring companies who fulfill the following criteria, are required to pay only the unsupported portion of the course fee to association :

- Participants must be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents or 3-year Work Permit Holders.
- Companies must be registered in Singapore and bear the full training cost.
- Only company cheques are allowed for payment of course fees.

As the association endeavour to qualify the course for renewal of AIP status each year, all sponsoring companies are required to sign a letter of undertaking in which they will undertake to bear the portion supported by the Skills Development Fund to the association should their sponsored staff fail to achieve 75% attendance and/or are absent from the examination.
